Film screening:
"Getting to Know the Big Wide World" (1978)
by Kira Muratova

8 pm

In her film Kira Muratova (1934-2018) turns a love triangle of three construction workers into a vivid and elusive poem. In the stereotypes of 'soviet' characters she reveals individuals and, in doing so, transforms the industrial construction set into a fragile scene of unspoken tragedies. Muratova, who is one of the most renowned Ukrainian filmmakers, uses a highly sensitive cinematographic idiom to give shape to the shapeless space, the unfinished building and the unstable relationships of the characters.

The film screening is a cooperation with the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre in Kyiv. The Dovzhenko Centre is the largest Ukrainian film archive with an extensive collection that includes 7,000 feature films, documentaries, Ukrainian and foreign animated films and thousands of archival records from the history of Ukrainian cinema.
